You may recall that a month ago Tom made a bet with The Children. He bet them that they could not go a whole month without arguing. In fact he bet them $1000 each that they could not go a whole month without arguing. And as if that wasn’t incentive enough, he sweetened the pot with a trip to Disneyland.
Well, my children are world champions at arguing, but they are not fools and they jumped on this bet. Princess O wrote up a contract and everything. You can read about it here.
So yesterday was the last day of the month without arguing. And they did it. The did not have a single argument. Well, okay, there may have been one or two conversations that we could have called arguments, but we didn’t because we were so sure they would never make it.
We were fools.
Tom said he was surprised. I have to admit I was too, but after they made it through the first week I figured their mercenary natures would take over and keep them out of each other’s faces. I was right.
Of course Princess O walked in the door yesterday and announced “Woo hoo! We did it” and ten minutes later she and the C-Man were screaming at each other in the TV room. I knew that would happen. Well, it was nice while it lasted.
Tom did talk them down from the original bet. Now, instead of $1000 dollars each and a trip to Disneyland they are each getting an iPod Touch now (well, this weekend) and a trip to Disneyworld next summer. An excellent compromise.
I wonder if I still get to go to Florida. And I do not mean on the Disney excursion.
