Rally Day!

Ah, it’s cloudy, rainy and a balmy 40 degrees outside.  It must be opening day of the Girl’s Softball Season.

Yes, it’s that time of year again.  It’s time for picnic dinners and mosquito bites and too many Walking Tacos.  In short, it is time for softball season once again.

This year Princess O has moved up a level.  Now she is playing in the 6th-9th-grade league.  Some of these girls look like Amazons compared to her.

I missed most of the first game because I had to take the C-Man to a birthday party, but I saw one at-bat, and got to see her field a bit.  Then the game was over!  Already?  Apparently, since it was Rally Day and all the softball teams have at least one game today, they were only playing to an hour and 15 minute time limit instead of the usual hour and 45 minutes.  At least I think it’s usually an hour and 45 minutes.  Maybe it only feels that long.

Anyway, I’m glad I was there for the start of game two because Princess O was the starting pitcher!

Here she is doing her thing.

This was only the second time she has ever pitched in a game, and it went about as well as you would think.  She walked in five runs and then the inning was over.  But she did manage to throw a couple strikes.  Just not in a row.  She may not get many more chances on the mound.  But I will keep you posted if she gets the nod again.

And then, in the bottom of the second inning something really cool happened.  Princess O’s friend M was pitching, Her Royal Highness had been moved to third base.  There were runners on first and third and no outs.  The opposing batter hit a pop-up that looked like it was going to hook foul.  Princess O reached out and caught it!  And the she tagged the runner who was coming back to third base!  It was an unassisted double play.  Can you believe it?  Neither can I!  That’s my girl!
