My Mom has arrived!

February 8, 2008

My mommy is here!  And she brought goodies!  She brought syrup and gum and Twizzlers and York Peppermint Patties, and cumin and chili powder.  She also brought books I ordered from Amazon for the children and DVDs for Tom and me.

She also brought the C-man a transformer and Princess O some toy horses.  And she brought me (the most important person of all) The Appeal by John Grisham.  I’m a big fan. I actually saw a copy here in Feltrinelli the other day but it was 30 euros so I had decided I could wait.  My next mission will be to try to finish it before she leaves so she can take it home with her.  That means she can read the book, and I don’t have to pack it.

Of course, I would have been happy to see her even if she hadn’t brought so much stuff.

Mom is battling a cold, and as an extra-added bonus, was in that just off the plane hallucinatory jet-lag mode so she didn’t want to do much.  We just went to the small market and the Standa (of course) and then to the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere for pizza from Pizzarius.  Then we came back here because the C-man was cold.  And if he admitted that he must have been just this side of hypothermic because he refuses to admit it when he’s cold.  I spend the entire winter every year explaining to him why he cannot wear shorts when it is 12 degrees (Fahrenheit).

We came back to the apartment and the children played with their new toys.  When I noticed mom was getting sleepy I announced an excursion to the playground so she wouldn’t conk out on us.  And while we were at the playground we saw a little girl that we had seen at the Trevi Fountain earlier this week.  She is here on vacation.  I was talking to her mom who said they are from Serbia, but just moved back there after spending nine years in Ohio.  How funny to run into them twice in one week.  Especially since their hotel was way on the other side of town.

Tomorrow tourist stuff!  And the traditional Saturday dinner with Team G.  And then Sunday my brother arrives!  Yay!
