Today we were going to go to the Bone Church to see the, well, bones. I believe I mentioned this church in a previous post. The first time I suggested this outing the children demurred, fearing I wouldn’t be able to find it. When I suggested it again yesterday they seemed game to give it a try.
The church is only open until noon and then again after 3. So my plan was to get going as soon as they got up and be out there by 10 or so. Well, today was the day they decided to sleep in. Nobody was out of bed (myself included) until 9:30. So when you couple their late rising time with their glacier-like speed first thing in the morning, there was no way we were going to make it out there in time. So we will try again another week. Besides, it was Ash Wednesday so maybe not the best day to try to see a church anyway.
I told them I really wanted to do something today. But since it was too late to hit any churches, which may not have been open for visitors anyway, we went with our fallback option: the Trevi Fountain.
But first: lunch at Burger King. This won me all kinds of points in the mom of the year polls. Sadly, I lost them all when I announced that they could not have Burger King and gelati on the same day. Bad mommy!
After lunch I suggested an alternate route to the Trevi fountain from Burger King and Princess O said “no mom, no! We’ll get lost!” The C-man said, “I think she’s right mom”. Oh, ye of little faith. I asked if I had ever gotten them lost. “Yes!” they cried in unison (it’s true). I asked if I had ever gotten them so lost that we couldn’t get home. No, of course not. So trust me and let’s take this other street. Did we get lost? No, of course not. The alternate street led us right to the fountain, no problem. Hah. That will teach them to doubt my map reading skills.
While we were sitting there the C-man announced that we had been to the Trevi Fountain the most of anyplace in Rome. I asked if he knew why and he said, “Because it’s mommy’s favorite”. He’s such a smart boy. We all threw coins in again today just to be extra sure we would come back. And we drank from the Ace of Cups drinking fountain too.
Finally we meandered home, stopping in about a zillion souvenir shops on the way. But we didn’t buy anything. That’s more points lost in the mommy polls.
